Thank You Elle!

Over Christmas, Elle decided she wanted to raise some money for the Burlington Humane Society in honour of dogs in need like a friend's dog named Lexi and her own cat who she got from our shelter years ago. She put a donation sheet up at Snap Fitness (located in Burlington) and asked people to make a donation of a few dollars in exchange for hand-made dream-catchers, which she made herself. Elle made dozens of these - working really hard every night to keep up with all her requests! You can imagine how much work it took for her to raise $100. Snap Fitness then kindly matched the funds raised for a total of $200.

Thank You Deloitte

Burlington Humane once again took part in Deloitte's Impact Day and we are very thankful for all the work Deloitte's employees did on Saturday 26th September.

An army of volunteers from Deloitte arrived for a quick tour and then got to work gardening, scrubbing washrooms and cleaning windows as well as anything else they could do for us - leaving the adoption centre sparkling when they left.

Thank you for this contribution to both us and all the other groups that take part in Impact Day.

Thank You Jake

Jake, quite the entrepreneur raised money through the summer by collecting and selling golf balls. Jake worked hard and split the money he raised up, giving himself some spending money, saving some for his future and donated over $60 towards the care of the animals at Burlington Humane

Alyssa, with some help, worked hard to cheer up our 'chill room' where with all sorts of beds for the cats as well as ledges where they can play. They worked very hard installing all of the ledges as you can see pictured here and spent some time at the shelter watching the kittens enjoy the fruits of their labour.

We received an email from a volunteer saying that she knew of a company who was willing to give us some free cat litter. It was a cold night when the truck showed up full of litter (and we mean full!) and volunteers helped us offload the litter by hand before midnight so the truck driver could get to his next pickup. We would like to thank Normerica / Northdown Industries for their very generous donation, Fluke Transportation for helping us get it to the shelter and all the volunteers that helped us unload the litter.

Turkey Trot

The Interact Club from Nelson High School raised funds for the animals with their participation in the annual Turkey Trot. They also had a bake sale at their school with proceeds to BHS.

When Isabella turned 7, she chose to have people donate to BHS instead of receive gifts. Isabella visited the Adoption Centre to deliver her donations and to meet the animals and is pictured here with Taffy.

Thank You Eclipse Imaging

Each year, Eclipse Imaging hold a card design contest for their holiday card amongst the children of their employees. Pictured here is the winner of this year`s competition with a cheque for $500 to BHS as her chosen charity for having the winning card design.

Thank You Terra Greenhouses

Just days before our official Grand Opening, Terra Greenhouses drove up to the shelter with a wonderful surprise, a gift of plants for our garden and planters to stand by the entrance.

With so much to do getting ready for the Grand Opening, we are especially thankful for the labour they provided to plant their generous donation.

Thank You Preslea

Preslea asked that her friends donate money to BHS instead of buying her gifts when she recently celebrated her birthday. Preslea is pictured here with Pixel, a cute 5-week-old kitten brought to BHS with 7 other kittens and 2 momma cats, Lotus and Hope. Preslea got to meet the kittens before they were sent to a foster home until they are old enough to be adopted.

Thank You Union Gas

Burlington Humane were happy recipients of some help from Union Gas - Helping Hands in Action in July 2008.

Union Gas donated money to BHS that was used to buy trees to line the back of the property by the train tracks.

Union Gas reps then came and did all the planting for us, for which we are very grateful.

Thanks also to Terra Greenhouses and Denbok for their assistance in this project.

Thank You Stephanie and Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School

Stephanie came up with the idea to make 'cage comforters' for the cats to sleep on at the Adoption Centre.

Her school, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School. held a pajama party day for a donation of at least $1.00 per child to raise funds for BHS.

Using donated materials, Stephanie and her family made 25 cute and comfy beds for the cats to sleep on.

As you can see, Stephanie and her beds were a huge hit with our kittens, Peach, Mango and Whoopee.

Thank You Grimsby Secondary School

Aaron Howe, Anissa Fluit, Teri Haslam, Ryley Taggart, and Hillary Lawson from Mrs. Henderson's Civics class in Grimsby Secondary School were given an assignment of choosing a cause, researching and reporting on the cause and volunteering. They ran out of time to volunteer and chose to hold a bake sale to raise funds for BHS. They raised $127, which was matched by Teri Haslam’s father to donate a total of $254.19.

When Britt celebrated her 13th birthday with lots of friends, she decided that all those gifts would be used better by a charity.

Britt's friends and family donated over $300 towards the Burlington Humane Society for her birthday.

This year we celebrated 'Cinco de Spayo' in style with snacks from Mexicali Rosa's.

Our annual adoptathon adopters were grateful for the snacks while they filled in their paperwork and some lucky adopters took home 'Munchie Cards' for free snacks at Mexicali Rosa's on Fairview St.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Headon Forest Animal Hospital annual Burlington Humane Society Fundraiser. We are so happy to announce that with your help over 1200.00 was raised to help the stray and abandoned animals of Burlington.
